We had so much fun at the Balloon & Wine Festival yesterday! We got up EARLY to watch the balloon launch and meet up with my dad, his girlfriend and her daughter.

After that we came home to chill for a while. My dad came over to hang out too until they could check into their hotel. THEN we decided we had to take them to Sweet Lumpy’s for a BBQ lunch.

I ordered the tri-tip burrito and I have to admit that the nacho cheese was the selling point for me. It came with freshly made fries too! I was only able to eat a little less than half the burrito.

Matt had my fave – the pulled pork sandwich!

After lunch my dad and crew headed to their hotel and Matt and I decided a nap was in order. What was planned to be a 20 minute power nap turned into a 2 hour sleep-fest. Oops. But we made it back to the festival around 4:30. Just in time for some fun wine tasting and exploring!

wine tasting

Only made it through a couple of wine tastings before I switched over to beer. Shock-Top to be exact. Beer just seemed more refreshing in the 90 degree heat than wine. Although the wines I tried from Thornton and Wilson Creek were ah-mazing!

For dinner I went with a BBQ Chicken Pizza from CPK and Matt had a tri-tip sandwich.

We met back up with my dad & co and listened to the Gin Blossoms! I think I know exactly 3 of their songs. But it was fun to watch.

After the concert we headed over to watch the balloon glow. Somehow Alyssa and I convinced a balloon operator-guy to let us in a basket. We know people.

I posted all the pics from the day on Flickr, so feel free to go check them out!

I’m a little frustrated because this morning I wrote this great post about our ride around Silverwood Lake and now it’s gone! I SAVED the draft because I still had to upload the photos and embed the video. So annoying. I’m just going to blame it on Matt even though he’s been at work all day. That’s how I roll.

Anyways I’m going to make this one short…we rode around Silverwood Lake on Saturday. In Aaron’s Manx. The end.

Just kidding. So I’ve been wanting to get a helmet cam for Matt when he rides his motorcycle, but I didn’t really want to spend the dough on a good one. Well, I found an Action Cam on Amazon Gold Box a few weeks ago for $50 and ordered it. I wouldn’t say it produces the greatest quality videos, but for the price it’s awesome! The camera will record 1 hour with a 2GB SD card. OK, back to the ride…Matt had the idea to attach the camera to the Manx so we could shoot our entire ride. We ended up with over 5 hours of video, so Matt sped it up to make a short 22 minute video. I’m pretty fond of the part at about 11 minutes in when all the guys are running to the bathroom. I suggest you watch the entire video, but make sure you set aside 22 minutes of your life first. Oh and wait 30 minutes after eating to watch otherwise you might get sick.

Matt and I did’nt really have any plans for the 4th of July this year, so I decided to call up my friend Tracy and invite myself to do whatever she was doing. That’s how I roll. I’m not ashamed. Her and her family just so happened to have a drive up to Santiago Peak planned for that afternoon. And we were invited to meet them up there.

Matt and I didn’t even know Santiago Peak existed before then. They were all headed up through Orange County, while Matt and I found a trail that started in Corona. It took us at least 2 hours to make it up to the peak. It was so much fun!

There are several antennas on the peak.

The views from the top were amazing. We could see downtown LA, San Clemente, Palomar, Ontario…all over southern CA!

We a fun picnic lunch and a little wine at the top! So fun and I can’t wait to do it again. Although parts of the trail going up were questionable in the truck. So, on the way down we followed the Carlsons back down through Orange County.

Waaaaay back in June Matt and I visited Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido for a brewery tour and tasting. Neither of us were huge Stone fans, but thought the tour and tasting would be fun.

The process for getting tour tickets is a little annoying. We got there a little before noon for the 12:00 tour; however you actually have to get there 2 hours prior to the tour starting to get tickets. We didn’t know that. So, we had to wait in line to grab tickets for the 2:00 tour. The line wasn’t bad as we were pretty close to the front of the line. With our 2 hours to kill we headed out to have lunch then came back for the tour.

The brewery was pretty small, but still interesting. We learned all sorts of things that I have forgotten since then. I never was that good in school.

Anyways, as usual the best part was the tasting afterward. I’m usually not a fan of the dark beers…actually I hate them. But they were included in our tasting and my favorite turned out to be the Stone Smoked Porter. I could totally taste the hints of coffee and chocolate in it. We even bought a jug-thing and brought it home.

This year for our anniversary we wanted to take a mini trip, but weren’t sure where to go. We decided that we wanted to keep it within a 3-4 hour drive from our house. I checked out our options and basically came up with Santa Barbara, Hollywood or San Diego. We really just wanted a place to hang out…whether it be at the pool or beach. However, the weather forecast wasn’t looking promising for a coastal adventure.

So, I continued to rack my brain for ideas when it suddenly hit me…Palm Springs! That is one place we had never spent much time and it was supposed to be SUNNY and warm. This is when I started researching places to stay. My only real requirement was that it must have a nice pool area. I found and fell in love with a Marriott that has an awesome pool and even a water slide; however it came with a $200 per night price tag. Then I came arcross the Riviera Resort and Spa. From the description and photos on there website I didn’t think we could go wrong to quickly made reservations. The hotel is newly renovated and fabulous…and it was only $99!

The pool area was awesome and came complete with a bar. One of my favorite things was that I saw 1 child the entire time we were there. Not that children are bad but I didn’t want to hear little brats yelling “Marco Polo” during my mini vacay! Our room was pretty nice. We were on a corner with a pool view!

We pretty much lounged by the pool all day, even having lunch poolside. Oh and several cocktails. OK, fine…I had a few cocktails too many and had to spend an hour in the room alone with the toilet. But then I eventually made it back to the pool.

We shared a flat iron steak and lobster mac n cheese for dinner in the lounge. There was actually a DJ in the lounge, so we got to listen to some fun music as well.

On our way home we stopped by Tyler’s Burgers, which I can’t recommend enough! We shared a cheeseburger and a strawberry malt…both were so fresh and tasty!

The last weekend in May we drove out to see my dad and have lunch. We were kind of hoping the weather would cooperate so we could get some beach time in afterwards, but it ended up staying pretty gloomy all day.

But it ended up working out alright because I finally got to go to Sprinkles Cupcakes in Newport Beach! I ordered the Banana flavor and Matt had the Peanut Butter Chip. Both were really good!

We decided afterwards that we would drive down the coast and found ourselves at Aliso Beach. We brought the blanket out and sat on the sand for a while before deciding that we were freezing our asses off.

Wow, I haven’t posted in over a month! Bad girl!!  So, what have we been up to? Well, we went to Vegas Memorial Day weekend and saw our good friends, Tracy and Anton, get married on a Harley.  Yep, they drove through The Little White Wedding Chapel on the Harley.

The official wedding is coming up soon…in Puerto Vallarta!! They had to make it legal in the states, so they decided to do it while we were visiting.  Others in attendance include the brides brother and his wife.

I got to play Maid of Honor, which basically meant I got to carry Tracy’s crap around in my purse all night! But I didn’t mind because I’m nice like that. She also shared a ginormous cocktail with me.

Congrats Tracy and Anton! We are so glad that we got to be apart of your (un)official wedding!

On Saturday morning Matt and I headed to the desert (Ocotillo Wells) to celebrate his dads 60th birthday!  The Wedeking’s never miss a good party!  We headed out around 7:30am and arrived at camp shortly before 10.  Right after our arrival at camp we had an unfortunate accident…the truck and trailer jack knifed and now we have a nasty dent in our pretty truck.  Oh, the trailer made it without a scratch.

Saturday afternoon I hung out at camp with our nieces while Matt went on a ride.  We usually take tons of pictures, but for some reason we ended up with only a handful…so no pics of our afternoon. But you can see this shot of the beautiful Jello shooters I made!  I think I ended up with about 75 of these babies!

The real party started Saturday night.  Aaron and Velinda brought out a caterer, so we enjoyed some carne asada for dinner.  For dessert we had the cupcakes I made!

The rest of the night we were busy enjoying the party.

Oh and Matt shot off some firey tennis balls with his air launcher.  I will do a separate post about the air launcher!

Sunday morning Matt taught me how to ride his motorcycle! I had some encouragement from my nieces. Maddie said, “Michelle, it’s really just like riding a bicycle” and Ros said, “Come on Michelle, you can do it”.  So, I didn’t really have a choice.  Unfortunately, the pics are BLUE! Somehow the camera setting got changed and we didn’t realize it!

For Valentine’s Day Matt and I headed down to San Diego to pretend like we were locals again.  Our first stop was Honey’s in Encinitas for brunch.  We had never been before and I am so regretting it.  It is the cutest place and our food was amazing! We shared the eggs Benedict with a side of avocado.  Yum!

Then we drove over to Moonlight Beach and people watched for a while.  The weather was a little cool, but I can’t resist the beach!

Next we drove towards Del Mar and then La Jolla.  It took forever to find a parking spot in La Jolla, but the wait was worth it.  We walked for a while and visited the Harbor Seals.  It’s always fun to watch them laying on the beach.

Matt had heard about Hodad’s from someone he works with and we thought we’d give it a shot.  So, we headed to Ocean Beach.  The line for Hodad’s was pretty long and I would guess we waited for almost an hour before getting our food.  We shared a bacon cheeseburger that was to die for!  And we also shared a strawberry malt….HEAVAN!  We will be visiting there again soon.

By the time Sunday morning rolled around I really wasn’t feeling well.  My headache started out small but grew worse throughout the day.  But I managed to power through it.  Tracy and Anton hosted a fun Super Bowl party at their place.  I helped a little bit and made my artichoke dip and wrapped the gifts for the prize wheel.  (I ended up winning a cute football tray!) One of Tracy’s friends baked a cake shaped like a stadium, so she got to decorate it!  It turned out really cute!

I had planned to take more photos during the party, but my body wasn’t having it!

We left their house on Monday morning, happily missing the Sunday night traffic! We made our traditional stop at Freed’s Bakery before leaving town.  They have the best cakes!  We got 3 slices to go…Oreo Cheesecake, Carrot Cake and Strawberry Wedding Cake!  All were delicious as usual!!

Oh and I ate some Funjuns.  Really.
