Yesterday Matt and I had the pleasure of attending my sisters graduation at Cal State Long Beach. Yes, we had the pleasure of parking far, far away. We also had the pleasure of sitting in the hot sun for nearly 3 hours. But in the end we got to see my baby sister graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Yes, the smarty pants double majored! And now she is off to get her masters degree. We couldn’t be more proud!

We spent the day with Jessy and Wes who are two of the coolest people I know. They drove all the way down from Oakland this weekend and chose to spend an entire day with us. Probably because Matt and I are equally as cool as them and us cool folks tend to stick together. Anyways, we had a tasty yet disappointing lunch at BJ’s. It’s the second or third time we’ve had really bad service there. Actually, I think a majority of the restaurants in Temecula have poor service, but that’s a different blog for a different day.

After lunch we headed out to do some wine tasting. First stop was Falkner Winery, which Matt and I have been to in the past. I had a coupon for $8 combo tasting, which is usually $16. The tasting included 5 regular wines and 3 premium wines, so it wasn’t a bad deal. Jessy and I shared our tastings with the boys. I think my favorite there was the Riesling, which isn’t a surprise since that’s always my favorite. Next we decided to try a couple of the “cheaper” wineries that we had never been to. We stopped at Baily Vineyard & Winery. This was my favorite of the day and at five bucks for 5 tastings it’s not a bad deal. I really enjoyed the Riesling and the Muscat Blanc and ended up buying a bottle of the Muscat. I always advise people to wait and buy the wine at Longs on their way back because it’s usually several dollars cheaper. I never follow my own advice. Our last stop was Hart Winery, which was also $5 for 5 tastings. I probably will not go back to this one nor recommend it to others. The wines seemed too acidic and burned a little going down. Definitely not my thing. One perk of going wine tasting with me is that I will always give you my free glass. I have an issue with having mismatched glasses in my cabinets. I happily gave Jessy my 3 glasses from today.

Once we were done with wine tasting we headed over to our local Harley dealer (told you we were cool), but they had just closed. Yeah, I was going to buy everyone a Harley. Sorry Wes.

Then we decided to head back to our house and play some Wii. It was so much fun and I can’t wait for them to come back and visit again!

We had some funky weather earlier.  First I heard the thunder, then saw some lightning.  A couple of minutes later came the hail and then the rain.  It was 100 degrees a few days ago.

…maybe it’s not over, I just heard more thunder.

This one time we went to Maui and go LEIed…

There was this other time we went wine tasting in Napa and got drunk…

Oh and there was this time in New York when we went sight seeing…

Then this one time we went to Vegas and got really drunk…

Where will our next adventure take us? Our 5th wedding anniversary is coming up in June and there were talks of a trip. But nothing was ever really decided or planned. I would really like to take a trip to Italy before we have children. And we’ve talked about going to Jamaica. We shall see. In the mean time some long weekend trips will have to do…Vegas, Pismo Beach, San Francisco, Seattle, etc.

I justed realized that we haven’t posted in almost 2 weeks, so I suppose it’s time! What have The Wedekings been up to? Well, for the past couple of weeks we’ve been working hard on our yard. Actually, Matt’s done most of the work. I organize, schedule and buy. Matt’s the laborer.

First we had to decide what to do with the slight slope at the back of the yard. We thought about building a block or brick wall or using railroad ties to hold it up. But ultimately we decided upon concrete curbing. I called and got quotes from about 5 curbing companies. The contractor we chose came to the house and gave us a written quote and gave us a few pointers as to what we should do before he did the curbing. Matt ended up having to move most of the sprinklers that were near where we wanted the curbing to go.

The rest came pretty quickly. Once the curbing was done Matt had to pull up the remaining weeds and grass. Then we were able to put the black weed liner down and cover it all in wood chips. The next step will be to put the plants in. The problem is the ground it pretty hard, so we’ll have to go rent a hole-digger-thing at Home Depot. We’ll do that later this summer when we put a new fence up.

Anyways, here are before and after pictures (more pics can be found here)…
